Recently improved weight-to-weight connection times by 34% and reduced stick slip by 62%
Highlighting results at IADC/SPE Drilling Conference 2024, Tue. March 5 at 10:00am Central in Booth 701
March 4, 2024 – Nabors Industries (“Nabors”) and Independence Contract Drilling (“ICD”) are debuting initial results from their early automation deployments in West and East Texas.
Following the installation of Nabors SmartROS® rig operating system on an ICD rig in West Texas, SmartDRILL® technology and crews improved weight-to-weight connections and overall connection times by 34% and 24% respectively.
Additionally, REVit® was used on an ICD rig in East Texas, reducing stick slip by 62%, increasing average overall ROP by 9% and eliminating 42% in total days. Back-to-back records were set for intermediates and there were no motor failures.
Driving for the next step change in productivity and safety, ICD established the “ICD Impact” program to seamlessly install capital-light technologies on its rigs. The program leverages its youngest rig fleet, years of effort, and investment made by third party technology companies and feedback from customers and employees.
Nabors, a leader in advanced drilling technologies, brings to the table powerful and proven rig automation solutions that deliver consistent and repeatable outperformance. Built for drillers, by drillers, its RigCLOUD® and SmartROS® platforms have been deployed on three continents, 157 rigs and drilled more than 90 million feet for Nabors and other drilling contractors.
Join the Nabors and ICD team for an in-booth presentation at the upcoming IADC/SPE International Drilling Conference on Tuesday, March 5th at 10:00 a.m. in Booth 701.
