Predictive Drilling and Canrig Sigma Top Drive Win Hart Energy 2024 MEA Awards

December 6, 2024

Predictive Drilling and Canrig® Sigma Top Drive were selected as winners of the 2024 Special Meritorious Awards for Engineering Innovation (MEAs) in the Machine Learning and AI and Onshore Rigs categories, respectively. The MEA program honors 18 groundbreaking products and technologies that excel in concept, design and application.

Nabors and Corva made waves in the drilling automation and AI/ML worlds with the announcement of their strategic collaboration. By connecting Corva’s industry-leading Predictive Drilling application and Dev Center to Nabors’ universal rig controls and automation platform—SmartROS® —the duo brought a whole new level of intelligence and performance to “smart” drilling rigs—and not just to Nabors rigs but to any drilling contractor, regardless of the manufacturer. An Operator in the Williston Basin used Predictive Drilling with Nabors SmartROS® technology and improved their average ROP by 17% saving 1.5 days in rig time. You can read more about the success here.

“Collaboration is the key to unlocking a product’s full potential, and we see that when combining Corva’s Predictive Drilling application with our SmartROS rig operating system. The two products not only solve challenges more effectively but also inspire innovation that drives the products to new heights.” – Rafael Guedes, Director of Performance Products, Nabors Industries

Canrig Drilling Technologies has been delivering the best-in-class top drives for over 40 years but recently commercialized the Sigma Top Drive. With a focus on increasing reliability and torque capacity, Sigma is the latest innovation that aims to revolutionize drilling, maximizing output and efficiency while maintaining safety standards. The Sigma top drive provides more power, performance and torque density than ever, enabling greater automation and remote-control capabilities – both at the surface and downhole. Recently, using the Sigma Top Drive, a major operator drilled the longest run in Permian Basin history on Nabors X12. The teams accomplished a one run lateral at 20,565 feet with a total depth of 30,315 feet measured depth where they achieved the spud to total depth in 16.36 days.

“The Sigma Top Drive is a game-changer in drilling, offering reliable performance and advanced automation that greatly boosts efficiency. We are dedicated to continuously improving our products to keep them the best in the industry.” – Camilo Rivera, Director of New Product Development , Canrig Drilling Technologies
